About the Conference

Established in 2005 by the Inter-University Program for Latino Research (IUPLR), Siglo XXI is the leading national forum for the examination of research, trends, and developments in the field of Latino Studies. The conference brings together faculty, scholars, researchers, and graduate students to explore the impact of national issues on Latino and Latina populations and the broader society, and to shed light on their current state in the United States.

The 7th Siglo XXI Conference will take place in Reno, Nevada, and is organized by IUPLR in collaboration with the Latino Research Center at the University of Nevada-Reno. The 2025 conference honors Dr. Gilberto Cárdenas, co-founder and former Executive Director of IUPLR. The theme reflects Dr. Cárdenas’s enduring commitment to Latino art, immigration, and activism that asserts Latino/a culture as a foundational part of American life, with deep roots that predate the founding of the United States. The program highlights the intellectual, cultural, and civic contributions of people of Latino and Latina ancestry across all sectors of U.S. society. Conference sessions engage a wide range of topics, including education, social stratification and inequities, public policy, health and environmental justice, arts and media, migration and transnationalism, gender and sexuality, community empowerment, and the future of work and technology. Siglo XXI offers a vibrant space for critical dialogue, collaboration, and knowledge exchange across disciplines and generations.
