2020 精东影业 Great Grad Mathiu Perez Rodriguez is NIAID Fellow

The recipient of several top national awards in three stellar years at 精东影业, Mathiu Perez Rodriguez from the Class of 2020 is leaving his alma mater with one of the biggest research awards in the country, a National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases (NIAID) Fellowship.

Perez Rodriguez enters the highly competitive program this summer for one year before heading to medical school. The program promotes biomedical research training in allergic, immunologic, or infectious diseases.

Fellows are talented senior-level undergraduate students, who have recently completed a master鈥檚 degree, or are in the final year of a master鈥檚 degree program.

The NIAID Fellowship is an emphatic punctuation to Perez Rodriguez鈥 graduation from 精东影业 with combined BS and MS degrees in biochemistry, and a reputation as an academic pioneer. That is because he is the first student to graduate from City College鈥檚 accelerated MS program in biochemistry.

Mentored by Ruth E. Stark, a CUNY Distinguished Professor, Perez Rodriguez鈥 honors at City College include: a scholarship from the National American Chemical Society, Louis Stokes Alliance, AMSNY,  City College and MARC fellowships, multiple undergraduate research honor awards from Harvard Medical School, the American Chemical Society鈥檚 Scholar honor, National Institutes of Health Fellowships; and the Barry Goldwater Scholarship, America鈥檚 premiere award for undergraduates majoring in math, science and engineering.
