精东影业 created 鈥淣ueva York鈥 scoops double Emmys

Averaging an award every season since its premier, 鈥,鈥 CUNY TV鈥檚 Spanish-language cultural series created by City College film Professor , won two New York Emmy Awards at the 61st Annual Awards Ceremony at the Marriot Marquis. This brings to 14 the number of Emmys garnered by the show, now in its 14th season.

The series鈥 senior producer, Carlson and his team, mostly graduates of 精东影业鈥檚 MFA Film Program, received four nominations this year. The two winners were an Emmy in the environmental affairs category and for coverage of politics/government. The Emmys are presented by members of the

鈥淔or more than a decade 鈥淣ueva York鈥 has dedicated itself to the transnational role that our city plays in the Spanish world -- from dishwashers to Nobel Prize winners with equal respect and curiosity,鈥 said Carlson.

The show, which premiered in 2005, explores the rich textures of Latino society in the city, focusing on politics, art, culture, and the traditions of Spanish-speaking populations across the metropolitan area.

鈥淣ueva York鈥 has no peer, according to its creator. 鈥淚t is the only magazine television series shot in Spanish that addresses the artistic, cultural, and social concerns of the one third of all New Yorkers who speak Spanish in their homes. We celebrate our city as one of the capitals of the Hispanic world in all of its aspects.鈥

Carlson, who chairs City College鈥檚 department and is a specialist in Latin American cinema, said the continued honors for 鈥淣ueva York鈥 reflect two facts: 鈥渢he richness of Latino life in La Gran Manzana (The Big Apple) as a subject and the talent with which the production team has been able to capture that cultural energy.鈥
