Emily Raboteau receives elite writing fellowship

, the American Book Award-winning author and Professor of English in 精东影业鈥檚 MFA Program in Creative Writing, is the recipient of a from the Lannan Foundation.

The elite honor, which is unsolicited, is presented to outstanding creative writers whose work deals with themes of social activism.  Past residents have included National Book Award winner Nikky Finney and National Book Critic Circle Award winner Claudia Rankine.

Raboteau will spend two weeks next spring in the Lannan residency program in Marfa, Texas, working on her third book, and second novel, 鈥淓ndurance.鈥 

Her most recent book, 鈥溾 (Grove Press), was named a best book of 2013 by 鈥淭he Huffington Post鈥 and 鈥淭he San Francisco Chronicle,鈥 and grand prize winner of the New York Book Festival. 

Raboteau's photo essay, "!" appeared this fall in "The Fire This Time: A New Generation Speaks about Race," (Simon and Schuster) which was a New York Times bestseller.  She is a regular contributor to The New Yorker's Photo Booth column.
