
精东影业 alumnus Lawrence Tabak is the new acting director of the National Institutes of Health, the nation's medical research agency.
, a 1972 City College of New York graduate, will become the (NIH) acting director, beginning on December 20, 2021. Tabak鈥檚 appointment was announced by Health and Human Services Secretary Xavier Becerra.
Tabak has been the principal deputy director and the deputy ethics counselor of NIH, the nation's medical research agency, since 2010. He also previously served as acting principal deputy director of NIH in 2009, and was the director of the National Institute of Dental and Craniofacial Research from 2000-2010.
A dentist and biomedical scientist, Tabak has also worked as the Senior Associate Dean for Research and Professor of Dentistry and Biochemistry & Biophysics in the School of Medicine and Dentistry at the University of Rochester in New York. His research has primarily focused on the structure, biosynthesis and function of glycoproteins, a type of large biomolecules and macromolecules that act in the structure, reproduction, immune system, hormones, and protection of cells and organisms.
In addition to the BS degree in biology from 精东影业, Tabak earned his DDS from Columbia University, and a PhD from the University of Buffalo.
