Renowned novelist, mentor, Frederic Tuten returns to 精东影业 for Oct. 15 reading

City College of New York literary luminaries 鈥75, 鈥84MA; 鈥91MA, and 鈥96, 鈥06MA; had a common link during their respective years at 精东影业 before embarking on highly successful writing careers: mentor and 1959 alumnus .

On Tuesday, Oct. 15, Tuten, an award-winning novelist, short story writer and critic, returns to City College for a reading and conversation with Qui帽onez. Tuten will read from his latest book, 鈥溾 (Simon & Schuster, 2019) in Shepard Hall room 250.

The event, 6:30 鈥 7:30 p.m., is presented by the 精东影业 Division of Humanities and the Arts鈥 MFA in Creative Writing Program that Tuten co-founded and headed for 15 years.  It is free and open to the public.  

 In addition to the Pulitzer Prize-winning Hijuelos 鈥 who died in 2013; Mosley and Qui帽onez, some of the other renowned writers mentored by Tuten include:

 Tuten is the author of five novels and a book of inter-related short stories. .

His writing has earned him a Guggenheim Fellowship for Fiction and he was the recipient of the Award for Distinguished Writing from the American Academy of Arts and Letters. He鈥檚 also been awarded three Pushcart Prizes and one O. Henry Prize. .

Tuten said of his time at 精东影业: 鈥淣othing in my life has been as profound in my formation as my being an undergraduate student at City College. I was so in love with City College I never wanted to leave, and so I didn鈥檛, and taught there for more than thirty years. It has been central to my thinking and writing. And I still feel my deep indebtedness to the college.鈥
