鈥淵ear of Film鈥 brings Stanley Nelson鈥檚 Miles Davis docu to 精东影业

As part of 精东影业鈥檚 鈥淵ear of Film鈥 observance, producer and director , a 1976 alumnus, returned to his alma mater to offer a sneak preview of his latest documentary 鈥淢iles Davis: Birth of the Cool.鈥

After the screening, Nelson was interviewed by Michael B. Gillespie, associate professor in City College鈥檚 Division of Humanities and the Arts, and a film historian and theorist. He also took questions from students and other audience members.

A 2019 favorite, 鈥淢iles Davis鈥 will have its theatrical release this summer and a national telecast as part of PBS鈥 鈥溾 series.

鈥溾 magazine describes the documentary as 鈥渁 tantalizing portrait: rich, probing, mournful, romantic, triumphant, tragic, exhilarating, and blisteringly honest.鈥 It adds: 鈥淚f you were 15 years old and walked into this movie having never heard of Miles Davis, you鈥檇 walk out touching the essence of who he is (and would probably be hungry to hear a dozen different albums).鈥

, whose accolades include Emmy and MacArthur (鈥淕enius鈥) awards, is regarded as the foremost chronicler of the African American experience working in nonfiction film today.
