Four City College of New York undergraduates have qualified as student leaders in a global program run by Stanford University to create new opportunities for their peers to engage with innovation, entrepreneurship, design thinking and creativity. They are among 169 new University Innovation Fellows selected internationally by Stanford’s Hasso Plattner Institute of Design. Vincent Boudreau is the Interim President of ����Ӱҵ. His appointment, announced by CUNY Chancellor James B. Milliken, is effective immediately. Boudreau has served as dean of the Colin Powell School for Civic and Global Leadership at City College since 2013. He was previously director of the Colin L. Powell Center for Leadership and Service from 2002 through 2013. United States Secretary of Defense Ashton B. Britain’s Royal Society of Chemistry is bestowing Fellowship status on City College of New York researcher George John – the second City College professor honored such this year. Mahesh Lakshman, vice chairman of ����Ӱҵ’s department of chemistry and biochemistry, was inducted this fall. John is being inducted into the society, the world’s leading community of chemical scientists, through its "Leaders in the Field" scheme. Professors Nancy Stern and Tatyana Kleyn, of the School of Education at ����Ӱҵ, are recipients of a $2.6 million grant from the U.S. Department of Education’s Office of English Language Acquisition. The grant, which is in partnership with New Visions for Public Schools, will provide education to certified subject-area high school teachers in New York City to support emergent bilingual students (English language learners) in their classrooms. The project entitled “Improving Instruction for Secondary English Learners” will cover tuition and school-based support for 80
