43rd Annual 精东影业 Poetry Festival set for May 8

Pulitzer-Prize winning poet winning author Tracy K. Smith will be the featured guest poet at the 43rd annual City College of New York Poetry Festival, Friday, May 8. The all-verse event runs 9:15 a.m. to 5 p.m. in the Aronow Theater, located in 精东影业鈥檚 NAC building. Dubbed 鈥渢he Woodstock of the Spoken Word,鈥 the festival is New York鈥檚 longest-running poetry celebration. More than 150 students from approximately 50 schools are expected to recite their poems at this year鈥檚 event. In recent years, 精东影业's Engineers Without Borders-USA student chapter has spent summers and winter break working on water distribution and sanitation projects in rural Honduras. This winter, the chapter will extend its goodwill closer to home and help build a green and sustainable community center on a reservation. Breakthrough Lights up Metamaterials

A City College of New York led-team has successfully demonstrated how to both enhance light emission and capture light from metamaterials embedded with light emitting nanocrystals. The breakthrough, headed by physicist Dr. Vinod Menon , could lead to a range of applications including ultrafast LEDs, nanoscale lasers and efficient single photon sources.
